Where it all began…

In his early days, he was known as “Baby Kaye”, a nickname earned because he was literally the youngest in the room whenever he played out. Despite his age, his skill on the decks earned him respect from older DJs and MCs, and by his teens he was already sharing the stage with established acts from the scene. His ability to read a crowd, mix seamlessly, and keep the dancefloor moving set him apart right from the start.

His uncle ran events in his hometown Huddersfield, which brought UK Garage names such as MC Sparks, Kie, Viper, Martin Larner, and Pied Piper. Kingz (aka Baby Kaye) featured on event flyers with known acts from the age of 13, with one of his sets being hosted by UK Garage icon MC PSG.

The comeback

Kingz continued to DJ throughout his teens until studying and family life took priority. He never parted with his vinyl collection, which sat ready for the right moment to return. During lockdown the vinyl’s were dusted off and Kingz began mixing at home again.

In 2023, Kingz decided it was time to return to the decks officially. He joined TikTok, initially posting music content and spontaneously streaming live mixes on the platform.

Two months into being on Tiktok, he committed a weekly live stream, which was called Friday Fusion. It is here that he showcased his skills on the decks, mixing vinyl and featuring acapella-heavy all-vinyl mashups, earning him the title of ‘Mash Up King’ and inspiring other DJs to join the trend.

The transition to digital

On returning to the scene, Kingz found that opportunities to play in clubs and venues were limited as a vinyl- only DJ. This led him to transition to playing on both vinyl and digital formats.

Recent Highlights

Recently, Kingz has played at various events both in the UK and abroad. Highlights include playing at events supprting So Solid Crew’s MC Harvey, to playing at a UK Garage event in Malia, and a mix featured on MC Kie Presents podcast.

What’s next?

Being on the radio has always been a goal for Kingz as a childhood dream, and he has now achieved this by joining LDC Radio, a Leeds-based community station dedicated to dance and urban music culture.

He will bring elements from his Friday Fusion TikTok show to a new audience via FM across West Yorkshire.
